Over the last two decades, Ethiopia's chronic social, economic, and public health problems have deepened into crises. Effective intervention is critical—and Golden Gate Community Health and EECMY have answered the call to action. Reproductive Health

Ethiopian women and girls have the worst reproductive health status in the world. In the rural villages we serve, we see proof of this terrible fact on a dramatic personal scale. Women's lives are saddened and shortened by the lack of contraception; the strain of early marriage and repeated pregnancies; the danger of unsafe childbirth and abortion. The answer to individual and national recovery begins with restoring Ethiopians' reproductive health—our project's top priority. Read More

FGM

The World Health Organization (WHO) defines female genital mutilation (FGM) as "all procedures involving partial or total removal of the external female genitalia or other injury to the female genital organs whether for cultural, religious, or other non-therapeutic reasons." Although outlawed by Ethiopia's constitution, FGM is still a harsh reality for most girls and women. The United Nations estimates that up to 90% are still circumcised.  Read More
