Note from Dian Harrison
Dear friends,Can you reach around the globe? Can you lift up a woman a world away—and improve her future, her family's health, her country's economy? Can you make this difference in Ethiopia, one of the world's poorest countries with the worst reproductive health? Yes.Planned Parenthood Golden Gate's partnership with the Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus has convinced me—in dramatic, life-changing encounters—that we can have this power together. If we start with Ethiopian women and girls, offering them the reproductive health care they desperately need, we heal families. If we support families with the family planning tools they strongly desire, we rebuild communities. And if we empower communities with modern health resources and knowledge, we start to reverse years of death and decline in Ethiopia. Every dollar devoted to this cause has an astounding impact. What may seem like an unlikely partnership—America's leading reproductive health advocate and Ethiopia's largest Protestant church—is making real, measurable progress in sub-Saharan Africa. And changing lives in the San Francisco Bay Area, too. Because through our work in Ethiopia, PPGG learns to better serve our clients at home. We see more clearly how to provide culturally appropriate healthcare to the 35,000 Ethiopians in the Bay Area. How to empower all urban women disconnected from the advantages of health, education, and self-esteem. How to effectively partner with other progressive faith-based organizations. How to forcefully advocate for U.S. reproductive policy that will enhance—not undermine—women's international status. Can you reach around the globe? Support our partnership, and you lift up the lives of women, children, and families worldwide. Dian Harrison |
